His Ministries

His Ministries is a nonprofit organization serving Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and the surrounding Appalachian communities, with a primary focus on recovery support and youth development. Founded in 1996 as the first referral service in Southwest Virginia, we provide resources, mentorship, and compassionate outreach to individuals, families, and young people in need. Our work is rooted in dignity, connection, and practical help—meeting people where they are while strengthening our community and creating pathways to healing, hope, and long-term stability. His Ministries mission is to see youth families and individuals living their lives drug-free through vital programs and services.

What We Do

"Setting Lives Free"

We operate community programs that meet everyday needs, including our thrift store and The Edge, a safe space for local youth offering activities, mentorship, and resources to help them grow and thrive. We also provide recovery support and community outreach, giving individuals and families practical help, guidance, and opportunities to build stability and healthier lives.

The Shop Around The Corner

Thrift Store

The Shop Around the Corner Thrift Store provides affordable clothing, household items, and everyday essentials for the Big Stone Gap community. Located alongside the thrift store is a Holiday Shop and Bookstore, offering seasonal gifts, décor, and books year-round. Powered entirely by volunteers and interns, the store also serves as a student training program, providing hands-on experience and skill-building opportunities while supporting local programs through every purchase and donation.

The Edge

It Starts With Our Youth

The Edge is a youth-focused community space created to support, encourage, and empower young people in Big Stone Gap. It offers a safe environment with positive activities, mentorship, and access to resources, while also connecting youth and families to recovery support and community programs that promote stability and healthy choices. Please contact us if you would like more information or would like to be a part of The Edge.

Helping The Community

RecoveryFest

RecoveryFest is an annual community event in Big Stone Gap hosted by His Ministries that brings people together to celebrate recovery, resilience, and hope. The event offers a supportive, welcoming environment with music, activities, resources, and connection for individuals, families, and those impacted by substance use and recovery.

This years event is on September 12, 2026. Please contact us if you would like more information or would like to be a part of it.

Peer-to-Peer Recovery

Why It Matters

Peer-to-peer recovery connects people with lived experience to those just beginning their journey, grounding recovery in hope, trust, and the understanding that no one has to walk the path alone. By sharing experience, it builds trust, breaks isolation and stigma, encourages accountability and motivation, and empowers both the person offering support and the person healing—ultimately strengthening recovery for everyone involved.

Recovery is more than a process. It's a community. If you would like to be involved, please contact us.

What you can do

Become A Supporter

We rely on the generosity of people like you to keep our programs running and making a real difference in our community. One-time donations help meet immediate needs—stocking our thrift store, supporting The Edge for local youth, and providing essential resources for recovery and outreach. As a supporter, you’ll receive updates, stories, and our newsletter so you can see the impact of your generosity.

Right now, donations are especially needed to help us secure a van, which is critical for transporting individuals in recovery, volunteers, delivering resources, and expanding our outreach across the community. Every gift, big or small, truly matters. Thank you for being part of our mission.
